05. Head Pat

“Thanks, manager-chan,” Kuroo said with a grin,
handing his towel to the blushing blonde. Unable to resist the urge, Kuroo
reached out and began to playfully ruffle her hair with his large hand. His
shoulder shook as he tried to stifle his laughter, unable to get over just how
small Yachi was. Even her head was so small! It was practically the size of a volleyball
to him.
He looked down at her
to see her reaction. That was another thing he loved about their encounters.
Yachi always made the most hilarious expressions and her reactions never ceased
to amuse him.
There was a light
pink blush dusting her cheeks, different from the usual tomato red that always
seemed permanently etched on her face. Her eyes were trained on the ground
while her head wobbled side to side under the weight of Kuroo’s hand. He ended
up staring intently, taken in by the timid expression. Ah, he had forgotten she
could make a face like that as well.
While not exactly
like some of the other inexperienced and easily flustered guys on his team,
Kuroo did admit that Yachi was on the adorable side. He wasn’t blind, after
all. Still, because of her exaggerated reactions and how she’d always be so
flustered and nervous of everyone and everything around her, it’d sometimes
escape him that Yachi could actually be pretty as well.
And so, during
moments when he did remember, he found himself taken aback and dumbly staring
at her.
His hand had long
since stopped roughly tousling her hair, resting briefly at the top of her head
before his fingers sunk into the golden locks. It was amazing how her hair was
actually as soft as it appeared, the silky texture entwining with his fingers.
The sensation was addictive and whenever Kuroo’s hand would reach the end of
her tresses, he’d find his hand climbing back upward in order to run the pads
of his calloused fingertips through her hair.
“Oi, Kuroo, stop bothering
Yachi-san and get your ass back here. We’re against Ubugaway this time!”
distantly, Kuroo heard Yaku snap irritably at him.
Kuroo froze and
stared at where his hand was deeply entangled in Yachi’s hair.
Oh shit.
His eyes slowly
trailed over to Yachi’s face and saw that the demure blush from before had
bloomed to a brilliant scarlet. Her eyes were tearing up from anxiety and
confusion and Kuroo immediately pulled his hand away as though he’d been burnt.
“Uh... sorry about that.”
“I-It’s okay...” she
replied in a small voice, her shoulders trembling as her eyes remained glue to
the floor.
“I’ll... just be
going now then.” Kuroo rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “Thanks again.”
“N-No problem,” Yachi
stammered, baffled by how hard her heart was beating right now. What was that
all about?! K-Kuroo-san had never done anything like that with her! She knew he
liked teasing her and most of his behavior was harmless (not that it ever
stopped her from screaming in fear whenever he surprised her), but that had
been completely different. It wasn’t the first time Kuroo-san messed with her
hair like this...
...but it was
definitely the first time he’d run his hand through her hair so...
intimately... like that.
Yachi wildly shook
her head and resumed collecting all the bottles and towels thrown haphazardly
around the side of the court. She was over thinking this! Kuroo-san meant no
harm by what he did by now! She was probably the one making things awkward,
being so creepily quiet and always so flustered!
Yup, this was all in
her head!
Omake
“Kuroo, hurry up,”
Kenma sounded irritated, unhappy with the fact that Nekomata-sensei had been
glaring at them because of how long Kuroo was taking. He glowered at the taller
boy who was staring dumbly at the palm of his hand when suddenly, Kuroo placed said
hand on top of Kenma’s head.
The silence that
echoed from the Nekoma team’s side of the court was deafening.
Kenma’s eyes widened
incredulously. What the hell? He was too shocked by what just happened to even
smack Kuroo’s hand away, giving the older boy the opportunity to run his
fingers through Kenma’s hair. Kenma’s eyes widened even more at this.
From behind, the
other Nekoma players openly gawked at what was taking place in front of them.
...was... was their
team captain actually petting their
setter?!
Kenma remained rooted
to the ground, too flabbergasted to even move.
Kuroo, meanwhile, was
nodding sagely to himself in his head. Hm... as expected, the texture was too
rough.
Without skipping a
beat, Kuroo walked over to where Yaku was. The brown haired boy flinched and
took a step back, only to yelp when Kuroo grabbed him by the head as well,
roughly running his fingers through Yaku’s head. However, unlike Kenma, Yaku
didn’t remain shocked for long. He roughly jerked his head away and aimed a
flying kick at Kuroo, who gracefully dodged.
Hm... too rough
again.
“You bastard! What
the hell was that for?!” Yaku’s enraged demands fell to deaf ears as Kuroo was
sauntering away already. To the disbelief of others, Kuroo made his way to the
other court where Karasuno was taking a brief break before their next practice
match. Hinata barely had time to recognize Kuroo when, without warning, he
grabbed Hinata by the head and roughly began petting him as well.
The short
middle-blocker immediately froze, his voice trapped in his throat as he had to be dreaming right now. There was
no way the sometimes nice and sometimes scary captain of Nekoma was seriously
petting him right now.
Right?
Right?!
Meanwhile, Kuroo
nodded to himself again. Hm... fluffy, but not as soft.
“O-Oi, Kuroo-san,
what the hell are you doing to Hinata?” Tanaka managed to force out in the
midst of his gawking.
“Don’t mind, don’t
mind,” Kuroo said cheerfully as he began to walk away.
Yup, he thought
proudly to himself. His original conclusion was right. Yachi’s head was the
best after all. Ruffling her hair had been fun, but actually running his
fingers through her hair felt even better.
Hilarious!
ReplyDelete:D Yay, I tried! Thanks for the review!
DeleteThank you so much for making this story. I am craving for Yachi stories, so when I read your stories at AO3 I'm thrilled. I'm basically ship her with everyone except Hinata, simply because too many people ship of them.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I like Yachi with everyone as well! :) I've seen some nice fanart for Yachi and Hinata, but not a lot of fanfics. Granted, there's more fanfics of those two than KuroYachi, that's for sure. xD I'm glad to meet a fellow fan. There really aren't a lot of fanficsfor them, but I have seen a bunch of fanart for Yachi! I was so happy to see that least Korea and Japan seems to like her more since I found a bunch of fanart of her and Kuroo and her of Akaashi as well! xD Of course, there was also the ever popular ships with Hinata, Kageyama, and Tsukishima. Whoops, now I'm blabbing. Sorry! I don't know many fellow Yachi fans, haha. Thanks again for the review!
DeleteThis is sooo cute! Thx for writing.
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you kindly! :)
DeleteWow, Kuroo reminds me of Goldilocks in this story. This is cute!
ReplyDeleteLOL you're right! xD and apparently for Kuroo, his 'just-right' setting is where Yachi is at. Thanks for the review!
